Baby Octopus and Normal Octopus?

Hi, I cooked some cleaned (i think) baby octopus by putting it into a simmering curry and kept it there for about 5 mins – I was badly ill the next day... how long do you need to cook it for I would rather be safe than sorry next time. I kind of thought if it was raw It would be ok anyway – evidently not... thanks
