Findings from this research project will contribute significantly to the development of rehabilitation strategies aiming to restore walking in individuals with SCI. This research study is particularly timely in light of emerging new findings during body isted walking treadmill training in SCI individuals. The knowledge derived from this study will help predict a more specific type of locomotor rehabilitation scheme. We currently have no evidence on whether the changes observed after retraining occur at a spinal level or the mechanisms that underlie such recovery. This limits considerably optimization and individualization of the available theutic interventions for locomotor recovery in humans after a SCI.
